This course aims to provide understanding to students about research as applied in a business context. Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required in a basic research process. Students will also be introduced to the core concepts, methods and research issues which lay the foundations for conducting a research. Data analysis, interpretation and presenting analysis output will also be discussed. 

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to

  1. Describe how research is being conducted.
  2. Understand the issues, process and methodologies used in conducting a research.
  3. Acquire knowledge and skills for the purpose of data coding, editing, analysing, data interpretation and report writing.

1.  Please give reflection on your overall strategy in teaching/supervision as well as evaluation. 

Effective teaching, supervision, and evaluation are essential to successful class management. As the lecturer for this subject, I will focus on the interactive lecture, which enables students to contribute actively to the learning process. Since Research Methodology is the SBM capstone subject, the lecturer requires careful planning to ensure that students can demonstrate their comprehensive understanding and application of the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their academic journey. Therefore, my strategy is to focus on student-centered (open discussion by Mentimeter) and incorporate educational technology such as YouTube, Online Forum, Padlet, Socrates, Quizizz, Mentimeter, etc., to ensure students can understand well for each topic. The subject assessment components also required student participation in group projects, group discussions, individual communication skills, and entrepreneurship for problem-solving.

 

 

2.  Please reflect on your creativity and innovation as well as its impact on teaching and learning.

Creativity and innovation in teaching and learning can help students develop problem-solving skills, improve thinking, and learn through fun. Creative teaching can also help students become more engaged and motivated, leading to better academic achievement. I always get to use the latest information in real business problems and opportunities to reflect on the concepts discussed in class. Apart from that, I will always use a variety of teaching styles to attract student attention in the class. My teaching style will use blended learning and educational technology. Using LMS, Padlet, YouTube, etc, helps my student reflect on their knowledge and competency, as stated in CLO.

 

 

3. Please reflect on your strategy in teaching/supervision as well as evaluation based on students' testimonial. 

Based on my teaching experience, there are many challenges in getting student engagement for teaching and learning activities, especially for the Z generation. Therefore, student learning activities shall be planned to be more interactive and fun to stimulate students' cognitive and emotional engagement.  I used intensive educational technology, LMS, YouTube, Quizzes, Mentimeter, Socrates, etc., and conducted a number of class activities (brainstorming, games, exercise, etc.)  to stimulate student interest and get students to focus on my lecture.
